In 1999 Siga Siga opened its doors and started to serve good food at the center of Heraklion. Since then almost nothing changed and today it is located exactly at the same address, at Minotavrou Street 2, just a few meters below “Theotokopoulos Park”. Siga Siga continues to serve good food until today the same way that Kostas Mitsopoulos, the man who created it, had imagined. And that is “siga siga”, which means to serve, taste and enjoy good food with no hurry, with no stress.
Underneath the big shade of a beautiful bougainvillea tree, friends rendezvous in the summertime and they spend the winter nights indoors under the classic wall painting made by Steve Sacatos. The big school map depicting “the four seasons” remains in its place for years, to remind us that seasons may come and go but every day can be a beautiful memory, as seasons change. Old photographs, retro frames and pictures of beloved ones are starring almost in every spot of Siga Siga. Great stories are heard at the bar from bohemian figures and “mama’s” recipes are being served accompanied by good wine.
For many years the “magic” recipe of Siga Siga is the sense you feel once you visit this warm and cozy place. It is the service that comes along with a true smile. The joyful clink of wine glasses among friends. The midday lunch break. The traditional tastes. The classic Greek treat. The night out. The Cretan hospitality. Everyone meets here! Students, young people, bourgeois, business men, artists, travelers.
Until today Siga Siga continues to write its own “story” by maintaining the philosophy that established it. Delicious food, beautiful people, good music and cool raki. Do we need anything else?
